HOUSE NORVAL
This family home required a kitchen that fitted in with the contemporary barn aesthetic of the house, in a way that was innovative with a sense of understated glamour.
This family home required a kitchen that fitted in with the contemporary barn aesthetic of the house, in a way that was innovative with a sense of understated glamour.
Surrounded by the Constantiaburg Mountains, this family home was an exercise in balancing practicality with a contemporary aesthetic that also spoke to the idyllic location of Cape Town’s Southern Peninsula wine region.
The homeowners wanted a kitchen that was an extension of the interiors – something the Valcucine brand is well versed in – so they opted for the New Logica System where everything is hidden behind two large door panels, at 2.1 metres each. When the kitchen is not in use, and the doors are closed, the effect is one of perfect harmony with the open-plan dining and living node.
Aesthetically, a stand out feature of the kitchen is the use of copper (metal imitation structured lacquer) on the units as well as customized, hand-finished, distressed copper on the Genius loci drawer fronts.
The result is a kitchen that not only functions at its optimum but also has a touch of understated glamour making it a work of fine art and exemplary design.
